Short FAQ

How do your reviews work?
Each Star Trek series is divided by season and a link to a page where each season is reviewed episode by episode is provided. Each episode review shows a screenshot, the season and episode number, the episode name, the original air date, my rating, an official StarTrek.com synopsis, a list of technical problems, a list of interesting factoids, a list of remarkable scenes, and some final comments. You may also attach your own ratings, reviews, and commentary to mine.

How does your rating system work?
It is a scale from 0 to 10. An episode rated 10 would be one of the best episodes Star Trek has ever done. A rating of 5 or 6 would be average. A rating of 1 would be a very bad episode. A rating of 0 means I think the episode is so bad that I have (usually, but not always) personally dropped it from Star Trek canon. Episodes rated zero often have incredible technical problems. There are very few episodes rated 10 and even less rated 0. I think this is fair. Keep in mind that I would rather watch a low-rated Star Trek episode than virtually anything else on TV. Star Trek has always been my favorite TV show.

What's the deal with your average rating?
My average rating should usually never be below 4 or above 6. Ideally my average rating is 5. The lowest rating I usually give a bad episode of Star Trek is 1. The reason for this is that I usually (but not always) consider a zero rated episode as so bad that it should be dropped from canon. This happens very infrequently.

TAS is not canon you moron!
My view of what is and isn't canon slightly differs with that of TPTB. Anything shown on screen or in a movie is canon, unless I rate it zero and declare it not canon.

What about the movies?
I rate them exactly like any other episode of Star Trek, except usually with a bigger screenshot, a higher rating most of the time, and a lot more commentary.

I submitted a review (or comment) and it's been weeks! Are you ever going to post it?
I don't check the queue every day. But if your review or comment does not appear after a prolonged period of time, and you've not received a rejection notice, then I've probably silently deleted it, or you typo'd your private E-mail address. I don't always issue a rejection notice when I delete a submission. On the rare event that you do receive a rejection notice, it is probably because I found lots of value in your submission and simply want you to refine it a bit more and resubmit. If I've silently rejected your submission, it means I found something fundamentally wrong with it and am unwilling to work with you. I know all of this comes off as arrogant and condescending, but this is my website, and I do believe in maintaining a certain level of quality control. All that said, and while I do reject a lot of submissions, I do accept more than I reject. Please, don't let it bother you.

What is the basis for your work?
I have admired the review style of Graham Kennedy and Bernd Schneider for many years. I wanted to create a more specialized Star Trek site focusing on episode reviews modeled as a combination of their two styles.
